So you're coming on a sailing escape with us—good call. Sun, sea, epic swims, and jaw-dropping anchorages await. But there’s one unsung hero of the trip you’re gonna want to get to know: the dinghy.
(Want to see the dinghy in action? Scroll to the end of this post for some epic clips from past trips. Trust us—you’ll be grinning.)
A dinghy is an inflatable boat for about 5-7 persons with an outboard motor on the back. It’s lightweight, easy to maneuver, and perfect for zipping between the catamaran and the shore. Every one of our charter catamarans comes with its own dinghy—it’s part of the adventure kit.
Think of the dinghy as your personal water taxi. Our catamaran anchors in dreamy coves and bays, just offshore from the action. When it's time to hit the beach bar, explore an island, grab ice, or head into a seaside village, the big boat stays put—and the dinghy gets you there.
We use the dinghy daily—multiple times a day. Whether it's sunrise coffee runs or sunset missions to that rum shack you spotted on the beach, it's your link between floating paradise and land-based adventure.
This isn't a cruise ship. It's a hands-on, get-involved kind of escape. One of the best things about our trips is how everyone becomes part of the crew in some way. Learning to drive the dinghy is part of the fun—and super useful.
Want to go ashore while others chill on the cat? Take the dinghy. You’re not stuck waiting.
Someone’s gotta pick folks up or drop them off. Might as well be you, Captain Dinghy.
It’s easy to learn and surprisingly fun to master. You’ll be zipping around like a pro in no time.
We’ll show you the ropes (literally and figuratively). It's usually just a few minutes of practice and you're good to go.
Make 100% sure no ropes, strings, or lines are anywhere near the prop when starting or driving the dinghy.
That spinning blade under the water? It does not get along with tangled lines. Check before you start, every single time.
Yes, it happens. Yes, it’s funny (after the rescue). But trust us—you don’t want to be the one floating aimlessly, waving your flip-flop at the mothership because you forgot to check the gas tank.
Pro tip: If the engine sputters, don’t panic—check the fuel first. Better yet, ask us how to top it off before heading out.
Driving the dinghy is a rite of passage on a Red Coral Escape. It’s the key to hidden beaches, impromptu snorkeling spots, and late-night shuttles under the stars. Once you’ve driven one, you’ll never look at a regular vacation the same way again.
So yeah—pack your swimsuit, your sense of adventure, and get ready to captain that dinghy. You’re gonna love it..
even if we run out of gas - or get towed 😁
