There’s a reason we keep returning to the British Virgin Islands. Actually, there are dozens—gin-clear waters, world-class snorkeling, island bars that feel like scenes from a dream, and enough secret coves to fill a lifetime.
This was our third trip to the BVIs with a catamaran full of friends and friends-of-friends, and somehow, it was the best one yet.
We hit our usual must-sees: the floating mayhem of Willy T’s, the powdery beaches of Jost Van Dyke, the otherworldly rock formations of The Baths, and the kaleidoscopic Aquarium off Virgin Gorda. We dove the legendary wreck of the RMS Rhone again—because how could we not? Even on repeat, these places deliver.
It wasn’t on our original plan. Someone pointed on the map, Captain Daddy nodded, and we dropped anchor in a quiet bay we’d never explored before. Just south of a dramatic rocky point, the cliffs gave way to a crescent of still, impossibly clear water. We didn’t even realize what we’d found until we dropped beneath the surface.
What followed was the best snorkeling and diving of the trip—possibly of any of our Caribbean voyages.
The coral here was alive in a way that’s becoming rare. Deep oranges, bright purples, and lush greens. A pair of spotted eagle rays glided past. Schools of silvery fish pulsed like one giant body. The visibility? Endless. Time stopped.
It wasn’t on the Chart. Now It’s in Our Story.
